Windows 10's latest update gets rid of Flash Player for good

Microsoft has released a new update that completely discontinues Windows 10's support for Adobe Flash Player. Through this KB4577586 series update, users can no longer use applications or sites that use Flash Player on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server.

Flash Player is currently entering the end of his life. In 2017, Adobe, the creator of Flash, announced the discontinuation of Flash development this December 31, 2020. Previously, technology giants such as Apple, Mozilla, Facebook, and Microsoft have also restricted the use of Flash. Flash is considered to have many fatal security holes, so it's time to replace better software like HTML5 or WebGL.

Microsoft itself has gradually reduced support for Flash Player in Windows 10. In September, Windows 10 stopped supporting Flash, but with a few exceptions. Companies that are forced to use Flash can still use it in the Internet Explorer 11 and Edge browsers as separate add-on to the browser.

However, with this latest update, Flash cannot be used at all in Windows 10. This update also cannot be uninstalled.

It should be noted, this KB4577586 update has not been deployed via the Windows Server Update Service (WSUS, or automatic updates that are commonly used today). This latest update is only available in the Windows Update Catalog and must be installed manually. The plan is that the KB4557586 update will only be distributed via WSUS in early 2021.

Another important note is that users can actually outsmart this latest update so they can still use Flash on Windows 10. The first way is to perform a system restore to a point before updating. The second way is to reinstall Windows 10 and not update at all.

However, all of these methods open up security holes that could potentially harm you. So it's better to forget about Flash and move to a safer alternative software.
